The Holocaust should be remembered for both reasons.
The Jewish people are still recovering from this attempt at genocide. Six million is not a small number. And the Jews were not the only ones targeted - Gypsies, homosexuals, and anyone who helped these people hide or escape were also marched off to the camps.
Sadly, the potential exists for something like this to happen again, with possibly a much larger death toll. That is a part of why we remember - to work towards making sure it does not happen again.
