My house is owned by a Housing Corp. which is run by alumni and actives. The active chapter pays rent to Theta Kappa Inc, the housing corp, and they invest the money, to make more money. In order to do major renovations, such as the new kitchen we are getting right now, we must finance it, and then the housing corp. pays for it out of the money we pay them, and the money they earn from investments. Other, smaller repairs and whatnot are paid for by the active chapter fund. I'm pretty sure alumni funded quite a bit of the original building expenses though, 25 years ago. Our house is built to be a fraternity house, like a dorm, and is on campus owned land.
