No one in the south (at least Arkansas) calls them jimmies. But I never would have even THOUGHT to have been offended by them!
Along the same lines though...here's something I HATE HATE HATE. Sometimes you'll hear folks....namely uneducated, old people...call brazil nuts "n----r toes".
My grandma called them that once and I was never so offended in my life!
ETA: I meant brazil nuts, not hazelnuts
