You read my mind about the Short North.
Yes...certain parts of the Short North around Neil Avenue are GREAT! I lived there and loved it.

It's going through a period of gentrification.
It's pretty in the Spring time....you can walk your dog or go running/jogging. It's very close to downtown (within walking distance if you like the excercise).
Downtown would not be the first place I would suggest shopping at. Downtown pretty much becomes a ghost-town after 6pm when everyone leaves from work. After that it becomes inhabited by groups of teenagers who are just looking to hook-up.
For shopping Easton is good during the weekdays but during the weekends...

it is also inhabited by LOADS of teen-agers who act like they weren't raised right.
I'm just saying all this to warn you ahead of time so when you see it you won't be
