The vote was NOT to expand because 2 chapters voted yes and 2 voted no, therefore it's a no go. 1 chapter is either at total or only a few away, 1 is very close in the 40's, 1 is at 34 and the other is in maybe the 30's. There's a local on campus, Beta Epsilon who wanted to expand and petition Sigma Kappa to take them over. However, our bylaws state that each chapter must be at total for 2 years before we can expand. That went through revisions and 2 chapters wanted to change it and 2 chapters didn't, so that was also a no go. Things are quite divided on campus, with 2 chapters, AOII and AXD having to vote on how their nationals respond to this, so they both said no. There was confusion on the part of our panhellenic delegate and she accidentally voted yes, although we had talked to the Greek Advisor beforehand and said we were voting no. Confusion there, but it got cleared up, so NO EXPANSION! We are currently talking about having Beta Epsilon possibily participate in formal with us in the fall. Expansion isn't a good idea for our campus, which has a generally negative attitude towards Greek life and with our chapters not being where they should be for expansion. More selection could bring other girls out, but in the end I believe that it would hurt the chapters more than benefit them. Whew! If you have any other questions, you can PM me!
