I asked this same question to our assistant pledge educator durring my pledging process. She told me that at the time we were founded white dresses were the nicest atire that a woman wore/owned. So in keeping with that and staying true to our founders, since all ritual ceramonies are important we should all wear our best clothes hence white dresses.
