ok, so my boss just asked me to call all of our vendors/suppliers and find out if they are "minority owned." I find this to be rather offensive, and I don't feel comfortable calling businesses and asking this question. She seems to think it's not a big deal at all. (yet she won't call them herself and has thrown it off on me.. hmmmm...). Apparently, our corportate is requesting that all of our divisions do this because a large corporate account of theirs is demanding to know. I am just wondering if anyone else out there thinks this seems a bit odd or offensive to be asking...

The large corporate account may be REQUIRED by law to know. I don't know what kind of work you do, but if this corporate account has any kind of obligations such as federal loans or a federal contract, they are required to submit affirmative action programs and comply with affirmative action guidelines. This also applies to their subcontractors and on down the line.
