As I have written a number of times, they just didn't think about the consequences of their actions . . . and one of the immediate consequences of that picture is that the photographer who took it then turned around and sold it to a website (which shall remain unnamed), and it was posted all over the place.

It may be fun to take a picture like that--I totally understand (and agree)--but you have to think about CONSEQUENCES, like, who owns the negatives for this photo? Well, in this case the professional photographer owns the negative, and he used that photo for something is was never meant to be (Internet pseudo soft-porn--not that I think it's a pornographic picture, but that's what he sold it as). (FYI--even though he owns the negative and the copyright to that photo, he did not have the girls in the photo sign model releases to have their likenesses used for financial profit; that's why he had to remove it from publication on the Internet site.)

OTW is right--if that picture had been taken by another sister, or something, that would have been one thing...but having a professional take it, emblazon the words KKG across the bottom, and retain the right to the negative and the copyright is just going too far. Why? Because its consequences go farther than just those girls.... it affects all of us as Kappas, and as Greeks.

KappaSig1400: Well, actually, college is for learning, though fun is a big part of that. If sororities (and fraternities, too, thought it seems it's taking IFC a little longer to get with the program) don't begin to police themselves, then the universities will do it for us, and will no longer let the Greek system exist. This is just the state of the Greek system today in our super-PC world. We have two choices: (1) adapt, or (2) close down. So to answer your question, KappaSig1400, who does it hurt? Answer: Everyone in the greek system, because it perpetuates the stereotype that all we are good for is getting drunk, or stripping off our clothes, or beating pleges with paddles.

I know this is not a true stereotype. You know this is not a true stereotype. But the non-Greek world doesn't know this is not a true stereotype. They are just looking for ways to say to themselves, "You see, I knew the Greek system is no good." Sure, this stupid topless photo incident is just a small, small contribution to continuing that stereotype. But it is a contribution nevertheless.

I don't want anyone to get me wrong (and if you've read my numerous posts on this topic you should be very clear on where I'm coming from) I have much love for my Kappa sisters at the chapter where the photo was taken. I don't judge them. I don't think they're a "misfit chapter." I think they had some fun, and it went too far, and now they're having to deal with the consequences, unfortunately in a very public way. It's probably a good lesson--for them and for other members of the Greek family--that you have to use discretion sometimes...or bear the greater consequences of our actions.

Ok first off Noone is hitting anyone with a paddle
2nd no one i sgetting drunk third everyone in college takes their clothes off and gets drunk anyways. who are you to tell someone what they can or can't do.
This is why some girls who are right foir a sosority are not joing b/c they hear how everyone wants to be their mother. that is why kids leave home and go away to college to get away from their moms. Hence people like you. so get off their case and mine.
By the way kappa Sigma is the oldest fraternity in the world. we just celebrated 600 years of brotherhood. and we are still string even if someone gets naked and drunk. so don't lecture me or anyone eles about how many years of reputation you are trying to uphold b/c it is not going to work.
have a nice day..
go kappa's
