The thought has crossed my mind on several occasions. When I get a bit critical of GC, I must reflect on myself as well.
It does fill some void, but I think it's a different "void" for different people.
It really is a reflection of the world, just a different plane. All these people coming together for support or a sounding board when
maybe, the communication we need isn't available in the real world.
I do think that many of us go through stages where we use GC as a crutch and don't work as hard on relationships or communicating with people we can touch or look straight in the eye. Also, Dionysus makes an excellent point-
Most of the people I hang out with IRL don't have long talks about oral rejectors, FUPA, circle jerks, etc. I like the anti-prudish atmosphere on GC. Social restraints or judgments can hinder creativity or philosophical discussions. For someone MY age, it's difficult to find people who are interested in some of the subjects I find stimulating. Heck, I like to laugh and most people just aren't that funny! Besides,I get the biggest kick when Valkyrie and I actually agree on something!
