I suspect negative publicity, plus the fact that many past Real Worlders have looked like hot-mess azzes, particularly those who make a career of being "reality TV celebrities," if there is such a thing.
RW was in San Diego, my hometown, and I think that a lot of people weren't too geeked about it. There's been backlash against the show for years (I used to watch it fairly regularly until the Seattle season).
