My grandmother taught me to knit, but I can only knit and purl, nothing fancy. She was wonderful - made cute baby booties and caps. My mother (who is about the most un-crafty person I know) taught me to crochet a chain when I had the measles in 2nd grade. I taught myself to do other things like making granny squares for afghans.
My real passion is needlepoint. My cousin the Pi Phi used to own a needlepoint and knitting shop. I used to have a $200 a month needlpoint habit. Our motto was:
"Whoever dies with the most yarn - WINS!!"
