That's too funny! I think it's even older than that. I want to say it's originally a hymn because I knew the tune before I became a Kappa! If I had my Kappa songbook, I could tell you.
ETA: I just checked my songbook and you're right! The tune attributed is
The Ash Grove. So that one must have come first!
