I think they are thinking they were attacked BECAUSE they were allied with the US.Meaning if they hadn't been,the attack wouldn't have happened.Maybe they think if they get out now,nothing else will happen. ETA:I didn't know how to say that without making it sound like I was speaking for the Spanish people.I am not in the least,just interpreting what I think the news was trying to say.
