I agree with James. I was in a similar situation a few years ago at my old job. I worked for my dad's friend from elementary school and worked with my stepmom. I just went in and told him that I had been offered a job that I'd wanted for a really long time and I couldn't pass on the trial experience I'd receive at the new job. I stayed the two weeks, and it was hard b/c I had to tolerate sarcastic remarks but I still see him all the time and we socialize normally now.
