The US was founded on principles of religious FREEDOM. That doesn't mean forcing everyone to embrace YOUR interpretation of what it means to be "Christlike". Whether or not homesexuals are accorded the same legal rights as heterosexuals has nothing to do with religion(s), it is about secular rights.
Separation of church and state!
