Disney has removed a statue of Mickey Mouse inspired by Janet Jackson, following her Super Bowl gaffe.

The singer was one of a host of celebrities asked to help design and personalise a 6ft statue to mark the cartoon character's 75th birthday last year.

Disney spokesman, Gary Foster, told the Orlando Sentinel the Jackson version saw Mickey wearing a tight black outfit similar to the one the singer wore on tour in 1990 after the release of her Rhythm Nation album.

The statues were erected in front of the Florida Magic Kingdom and are now being moved to Philadelphia to greet shareholders at Disney's annual meeting, before going on a nationwide tour.

But the Jackson version will not be tagging along and has now been replaced by a spare statue created by an in-house designer at Disney.

Foster said: "Considering all the controversy it [the Super Bowl performance] drew, we talked it over for a couple of days and decided it would be best to replace hers with a new one."
I fully agree that what Janet did was in very bad taste and hopefully it will spark a movement to clean up television (btw - if you want to help with the movement, please go to afa.net ).

However, I find it HIGHLY suspicious that Disney would pull this statue out of concern for the controversy surrounding the Super Bowl, especially considering that every year, Walt Disney World sponsors "Gay Day" (www.gayday.com) at their Orlando theme park (yep, that sounds like a company that cares about the moral fiber of our society to me ). So if anyone plans on going to Walt Disney World Resort please check the park's calendar. You and your family may get more than you bargained for!
