True, but I wasn't aware that the DMV helped enforce that - it's a state agency, not federal. Though, you can register to vote when you get your license, so is it in that context?

Why not? You'd have to structure the college deferment so people don't abuse it, of course - perhaps by requiring an additional time commitment for each year you defer your service. I'm sure the armed forces would benefit from having people with college degrees in specialized fields.

On another note, what do you all think about women being required to register for the draft or participate in mandatory military service? I say yes, but women should not be forced to be front-line troops if they don't want to - they can serve in support roles.
