One thing to keep in mind, we are always at the mercy of the producers in these shows. We were shown a very heavily edited version of what really happened. Supposedly, the "amazing connection" between Ian and Meredith was so strong, the Producers had to do something drastic to make it look interesting, ie make Ian look like an uncommunicative prick. If you look at the things they couldn't hide--the body language, the eye contact, the silent communication, you can clearly tell that Ian and Meredith are very much on the same wavelength. Even Meredith's parents admitted that Ian was very poorly edited and IRL he is much more open and warm. "The last 5 minutes of the show is what he's really like." (quoted from someone on another board who heard the interview)

Honestly, I think Meredith would have been very bored very quickly with Matthew. Yeah, he was sweet, he was nice, he said all the right things, but I don't think Meredith is the type of girl who wants that every day. Sure, the instant passion that Ian and Meredith have might cool after a while, but the comforting, everlasting love that it's often replaced with is much more satisfactory, IMO. Shit, my husband and I are barely married 6 months and we're nowhere near as passionate as we were when we first got married. That doesn't mean our marriage is doomed, it just means we've moved to a different stage of our relationship.

I was on the Ian love train since day 1. I'm happy they're together and I really hope they make it!
