1) Working mom. You get it at work because you have to take time off every time they're sick, have a snow day, or a school break (and you can't find a babysitter). You get it because all the swimming lessons, dance lessons, etc start right after school or are during the day in the summer. Scouting summer day camps start at 9:00 am and end at 3:00 pm making it impossible for my kids to go. And NO, I can't be the Girl Scout Leader AND the Cub Scout Leader AND be on the PTA. When I do take a day off to go on a field trip, I'm not in the "In" group of SAHMs who hang out together every day while the kids are in school so nobody talks to me (except parents I know from being a Cub Scout Leader and a soccer coach).
2) Divorced (and happy to be on my own). NO, I'm not going to steal your husband, I got rid of one of those for a reason. NO, I don't want to be set up with your husbands co-worker who just got divorced. NO, I don't want to be married ever again because it's the most overrated institution on this planet. NO, I wouldn't stay together for the kids because it was hell on them while they lived in a house with two adults who couldn't speak two words to each other without getting into an argument and you'll never convince me that it was better for them to live with two parents simultaneously with that kind of tension in the house! NO, I don't feel lonely or sad when I'm alone on a holiday.. it's a treasured break when I can stay in my jammies and read a good book or watch a chick flick all by myself! And, lastly, It is MUCH easier to be a single mom than to deal with an idiot husband on top of raising two kids!
