Actually, a lot of the Sinfonians up here call themselves Phi Mus. Phi Mu for girlies doesn't really have a presence in Wi.

Interesting. I have occasionally heard people refer to us as "Phi Mus," but not very often, and I have
never heard a brother say it. Certainly, our nationals would never use it, and I might feel a little constrained to correct someone who called us "Phi Mus." (Then again, since my sister
is a Phi Mu, perhaps I'm a little sensitive on the subject.) I would try to correct them politely, though -- hope it wasn't me who "tore your butt" UKDaisy.
And actually I've never heard a brother say something like "I'm/he's a Phi Mu Alpha." In my experience, brothers always refer to themselves or other brothers as "Sinfonians," which isn't really a nickname -- it's really the proper, official term for a brother, dating back to before the Greek letters were formally added to the name and the Fraternity was simply The Sinfonia Fraternity (or sometimes "The Sinfonia"). To put it another way, in my experience, brothers would refer to the Fraternity as Phi Mu Alpha, but would not refer to themselves as Phi Mu Alpha
s, unless perhaps talking to someone who might get too confused by bringing in the whole "Sinfonian" terminology. But that's just my experience, and it is a big fraternity.
[sidetrack]Back in the day, the campus mailboxes for Phi Mu and Phi Mu Alpha at my school were next to each other. Needless to say, we got each other's mail all the time.[/sidetrack]
