You are so right - this is a problem that needs to be addressed by the entire community, not just the African-American community! It's heartbreaking to hear about this happening yet again. Have we built up some children's self esteem to the detriment of the rest? Should one child's self esteem ever be based on a comparison to another's?

I worry about how many kids are growing up with a father in jail or dead from gang violence - how does this cycle stop?

I could cry...
