It definitely depends on the campus.

I think at big state universities, particularly in the BCS conferences, Greeks are always visible. Be it from actual Greek Rows, big houses, sheer numbers or the high level of involvement. Here at Nebraska, you better be Greek if you want to be Student Body President, or you have to be so involved that greeks know you from a lot of various things.

Here are some ideas that I think can help raise your profile.
  • Get Involved! My chapter requires our pledges to get involved in two non-greek organizations, whether it's a campus ministry or student government, they have to have 2 or they don't initiate. That automatically gets them started and for some (like me when I was a freshman) it causes them to get really involved. That gets the greeks names out there, and shows the campus that you are serving the university.
  • Organize days in which all greeks wear their letters. Make it once a week, once a month, something regular so you can see whose out there
  • Start a chapter of Order of Omega and really make it an honor to get into, recognition can inspire a lot of people to work hard.
  • Make sure your chapters are showing up in letters at major campus events...football games, new student convocations, Intramurals (make sure you practice great sportsmanship), anything that a lot of people will be at.
  • Make sure all chapters support each other...particularly when their doing something good like a philanthropy. Here whenever a house as a "food" philanthropy, 85% of the people who show up are greek. Sports tournament philanthropy events are usually 100% Greek
  • Publicize the stuff you are doing. Get the campus paper, and the local paper/tv to send out reporters to show the awesome stuff you guys are doing.
