that is how my parents were with both my sister and me when we were in school. my father didn't get to go away to school. he had to live at home and work and put himself through school. my mom did get to away though. but, he always felt that he missed out on the college experience and therefore him and my mom worked real hard and started saving when both my sister and i were babies so that way we could have the college experience he had wanted, and he did tend to live vicariously through us when they came to visit and stuff. and i am forever grateful to them that i didn't have to worry about money/job when i was in school. and i don't think that i was any less prepared for the real world when i graduated because they raised me right, plus as AXJules said, they provided the money, but i still had to manage my expenses and checking account and pay my bills on time.
