Hey Soror, I've heard that too. But all the Kappas I know call it Kappa beach. I agree about the crowd it attracts. I know puh-lenty of people that go who haven't stepped foot on a college campus (except when there's a party).
I know last year it was reported that Galveston locals were trying to close the town to keep people out. I think it has become too popular because everybody knows where to find the Nupes, the third weekend in April.
