We do a fair amount of work in S.D., so this story caught my eye and I've been kind of following it.

I don't know whether he's pompus or not, but he was apparantely driving somewhere after drinking, ran a red light and hit and killed someone on a motocycle. I think he was speeding as well.

He is a former governor who was in his first term in the US House of Representatives -- and, according to the Poly Sci Prof. I talked about above, a pretty good public servent.

I don't know anything more, but he's not the first person to be stupid in a car after drinking too much. If that defines him as "above the law," he's not alone, unfortunately.

He is at least smart enough to resign from the House, as opposed to some CongressPersons who try to hold onto their seats (no pun intended) after being convicted of crimes.
