He will be replaced by special election. I think I heard there are a number of Republicans and one Democrat running.

I can only go by a comment from a Political Science Professor from S.D. who told NPR that he hopes that in the long run, the man's legacy will be the many great things he did for the state as opposed to this single incident.

Of course, the incident (DUI, speed, red light as I recall) was inexcusable.
