I'm not sure in CA, all I know is I had to work. Then the managing partner sent out an email saying we could leave at 3pm.
"Oh thanks youse massa', you evah so generous sah!"
Was that response he expected. Guess what tightwad, I'm on salary, and I already put on clothes that need to be taken to the cleaners. If you want to "honor" the holiday, then just give us the day off, or acknowledge that you're a tightwad and move on.
The silver lining was that so many other people have the day off that the commute wasn't bad
