I had all four wisdom teeth removed when I was 19. It was a fairly straightforward extraction, under local anesthetic. I was eating solid food the next day. I was lucky...

My husband has just undergone oral surgery to remove a wisdom tooth that should have come out 10 years ago. The tooth had to be broken and removed in pieces. It's been two and a half days, his mouth is still sore, he's knocking back the Vicodin, and he still can't eat anything solid.

We saw the same oral surgeon. He recommended salt-water rinses starting the day after the surgery (not the day of).

Take care.
