Morning Everyone!
Work with me please, this is a long one.
I was thinking about this discussion over the weekend and a thought came to mind regarding whether or not being homosexual is a choice. I believe homosexuals are born, just as we are born African-American.
I thought back to slave times when our fore-mothers gave birth to the slave masters' illigitimate children. Some babies were born various shades of brown and some looked caucasian but all were considered to be black.
Let's fast forward a few years to when it is time for these intelligent, considerably well-educated children to make their way in the world, a world where the color of your skin could get you raped, beaten, etc. all without raising an eyebrow of the legal system. The brown toned children could not hide their race from the masses, however, they advance as far as their skintone allows. The caucasian looking children on the other hand, have a different issue on their hands. They have a
choice: either claim their proud heritage and live with the mistreatment and ridicule others face, OR pass for white and achieve the "better" things in life, even though it means denying who they are. Some
chose to pass, some did not.
I sumbit that those who
choose to pass did so because they saw the treatment other blacks received because of their skin tone and did not wish to be treated as such. I mean, who in their right mind WANTS to be ridiculed and dehumanized on a regular basis regarding something over which they have no control? For those who did not
choose to pass, being true to self was much more important than any material gain that might be had.
With that in mind, my question is how can anyone
choose to be homosexual when they are ridiculed and dehumanized? How can one say being homosexual is a "fad"? There's a very good reason why more people are coming out. It's because society is becoming more accepting of the lifestyle and people are more free to be who they are. Are homosexuals as accepted as they should? No. If they were, this discussion and millions like it would not occur.
Anywho, I just wanted to share that though with y'all because I may not have another one that good this year.
Happy Kwanzaa!
