Actually, a few years ago, Gucci made a bag that is very similar to the Coach signature collection. Instead of C's, they made their's with G's. It was Gucci who began the design and Coach copied it. I don't think the Gucci bags took off like the Coach bags did. This is what I learned while working in designer handbags at Bloomingdale's.
I too had thought for a while that people looked cheesy carrying around obviously fake Coach bags only to learn later that they were carrying around a Gucci.
