Okay, I am a bit mixed about the Kim article. I was glad that it was addressed, though, because sometimes Essence seems a little "starry eyed" and validates everything under the sun. I never disliked Kim, being a product of her environment, but I sure as HECK hate the message she sends. But then I'd have to attack most of hip hop on those grounds.
Do y'all get as tired as I do, turning on the radio to be dissed by my own people? I just feel old school. I just get tired of misogyny being big bucks business, and going to the clubs and seeing us dance to songs that ask "What these B****** Want?"
But, back to the mags: Code can be found just about everywhere here in MO, probably in all big cities- I even found a great issue at the airport: Prince! The women's pictorials and some of the columnists are minuses, but I like what they're trying to do. SO much better than EM.
I only read Jet when of my friends has been mentioned (they LOVE writing into Jet about their weddings!
). I read Black Enterprise occasionally. And I LOVE ESPN the Magazine; I am going to use it to bribe my tutees this semester.
