That's really what this is about; the economics of biology. Eggs, and the woman's committment, are resource intensive (expensive.) Sperm is cheap. Theoretically, a man can get multiple women pregnant every day. Day after day. Women can handle one pregnancy every 9 months plus the time of lactation needed to support the infant, (my understanding is that it is very difficult for a woman to get pregnant while lactating) and that can easily add up to every 15 months. Even if its every 9 months, that is a lot longer than every 6-12 hours.

There is probably a biological instinct in women to make sure that the horizontal bop is worth the potential of pregnancy.
