Oh my, do I hear you all on this! I don't mind the parents who bring kids to movies (plays, conferences, etc...) who are polite enough to immediately get up and go for a walk when their baby starts to cry. I can handle that as long as they sit on the end of the aisle so they don't have to shuffle past 5 times. I'm totally cool with responsible parents.
I don't normally have to deal with crying babies. What I seem to get are the kids in the 3-8 year old range who like kicking the back of my seat repeatedly. You know the ones I mean? They swing their feet back and forth and tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap the back of my seat through half the movie. I might turn around and look at the parents and then at the kid's feet to give them a clue. Sometimes the parents don't get it. I might then ask them to not kick my seat. Sometimes that works and the parent tells little Billy to stop doing that. However, some parents don't keep a watch on their child. After 20 minutes, the kid gets antsy again and starts swinging his feet. Tap tap tap tap tap.....
