Hey Sorors!!!
I love you all so much. I can't believe the responses. I love the fact that we have health conscious sistahs within our sorority. Okay, where do I begin.
Red Velvet:
Yes, I have thought about starting a health and fitness newsletter for African AMerican women. I guess I'm still in the 80's/90's because a website would actually be more convenient and useful to reach African AMerican women on a larger scale. I would love to also have a column in a magazine/newspaper (you know like, Q&A). If Sorors are interested in a diet support group, LET'S DO IT!!! This is so positive. I am so down.
the 411 and kissy324:
BREAD, BREAD, BREAD. I know the pain. Carbohydrates are like drugs. They are very addictive for people. I've heard people refer to themselves as carb addicts. If you must eat bread, that's okay. Try to eat whole wheat breads and pastas. The white, fluffy stuff has very little nutritional value. That's the key. You will find that the carbohydrate content is similar in wheat and white. It's the other stuff, the protein, fiber, calories that are the difference. The white, fluffy stuff is very over-processed. Additionally, try not to eat the stuff late at night. Nothing past 7:00 p.m.
Don't forget, carbs are not unhealthy. Our body synthesizes carbs to make glucose which is what our brains run on all day. We need the stuff. Just NOT the over-processed type. Try wheat. Try crackers.
Good luck.
