its way common im the midwest. at my house, we usually enter and leave the house through the garage. when you walk into my house through the garage, there's a coat/shoe room - its like one big giant walk in closet that connects the garage to the house. We ALWAYS take off our shoes when we get home - not doing so will result in my mother kicking your butt!!!
