If your web host allows password-protected subfolders (subdirectories) you can set one up easily. Now if you want secure socket layer protection (SSL), that may be more complicated and cost more.
Once you have set up your password-protected page, be sure and delete your browser cache before logging in to the protected page. Sounds like that's what's happening as you view your site. Also, try and log in on a couple of other computers other than your own to see if the password protection works. (Again, be sure and clear the cache after you've done seeing the pages.)
