Alrighty then....

Okay I'm a 5th/7th generation Canadian (mom's side/dad's side).
On my Mom's side (mostly Anglican):
- English (military family that settled in Canada following Crimean War).
- Swiss (came to Canada following Franco-Prussian War, not sure why).
- German (a number of "waves", after Franco-Prussian War, after WWI, and WWII).

On my Dad's side (mostly Catholic):
- Scottish (came over to Virginia after failed Jacobite Uprising, most of family moved to Perth, Ont. during the Amercian Revolution).
- English (came over to put down as my granfather put it "the American Rebellion", after settled in Perth).
- French (little hazy, older family that married into family around time of American Revolution, quite possibly originally from New France).

Basically I always explain it as anything north and west of Switzerland.

PS> The different branches of the family have remained pretty close, and over the generations some 4th and 5th cousins have married .

PPS>> One interesting thing: during WW2 one of my great uncles was wounded and catpured when Cyprus was overrun by the Germans. When he arrived at the POW camp, his name was recognized by the Commandt, and spent a week in the Commmandt's personal care, before being transfered to another POW camp because of a conflict of interests.... my uncle was married to the Commandt's favourite niece. My family has ended fighting each other in two world wars, and has made for some interesting family get togethers or reunions.
