I think I'd say what my mother says, "Yes, so and so is my (insert relation here). He/She will continue to be my (insert relation here).
Then, I'd go on and say, "What he/she has done (if found guilty) is a shame. And end on the note "we all fall short".
Then mention prayer, forgiveness, etc. etc.
