It was a "geographical area" with a different name prior to that.

Nice idea. Palestine was a geographical area, but certainly not a self governing nation during that time. The area was under British control during most of that time. I'd have to look up the exact dates, but I'd say the British invaded and took control of the area around 1916 as a result of the Sykes-Picot Agreement and had the area under control by 1918. Prior to that agreement, the Brits and French had promised the Arabs most of that area in exchange for their revolt against the Ottomans. The Ottomans had ruled the area since the 1500's. The promise of Arab rule was not kept at that time. The British ruled the area with little challenge from 1918 until the middle of the 30's when the Arabs put up a short revolt. In 1937, the Peel Commission Report recommends that Palestine be turned into a Jewish State and an Arab State. Again, this did not happen. Shortly after, Jewish settlers began making new, but limited headway in the area under the MacDonald White Act. The first Jewish settlers had actually shown up in the area in the late 1800, early 1900's. This might be a bit simplistic, but Palestine was never a nation during this time. No pissing contest.
