It was founded as a literary society, not a secret society, in 1832 - 19 years prior to the Adelphean Society, which was founded as a secret society for college women. When other sororities were trying to "poach" Adelpheans into their GLOs, the Adelpheans decided to change their name to Alpha Delta Phi instead (1904). Being of Southern origin, they didn't even hear of the fraternity until 1912, and changed yet again to Alpha Delta Pi in 1913 to accomadate them. Alpha Delta Phi never extended further South than UVA, and has 24 chapters, while Alpha Delta Pi has chapters across the US and Canada and has over 130 active chapters.

It's a petty thing, I know, but that's the feeling.

KR - has your husband ever known anyone at the Academy named McKeever? My mama has several generations of cousins who went to Annapolis. The highest rank was Commander (? Is that the one right under Admiral?) Elmer McKeever, who died in the last five years.
