No Honour in Hazing

Greetings all.

I must say that I am continually amazed when I hear stories concerning hazing in this day-and-age.

So many Fraternities include words like 'honour' and 'dignity' in their mottos or in their mandates, yet we continue to hear of those who choose to demean their brothers and pledges.

There is no honour in hazing.

I suspect we are somewhat fortunate up here in Canada, as many of our Fraternities, whether Locals or chapters of Nationals , have stood against hazing from the beginning. Still there are those who think that abuse brings solidarity.

My Fraternity, Gamma Beta Lambda, is very young: Only 40 years old, founded in 1963.

Yet, we, being a fraternity that bases its ethic on Warrior-Values, have long believed that treating pledges with honour and respect is the sure path to ending up with Brothers who will continue that tradition of respect.

Hazing and other forms of abuse serve only one purpose: To detract from the reputation of good fraternities North America wide.
