There are ONLY local fraternities and sororities here. Unfortunately, they are the stereotypical representation of Greek Life. (MORE unfortunate is the fact that my uncle is the Chief of Police here!) When I first got here, and he went off on how terrible Greeks were, we sat down and had a long 'Greek Information' night. The sororities here, according to him, get into more trouble than the fraternities. I explained to him that the NPC or a national office would never allow an NPC sorority to operate like that. I was doing this a lot when the first Sorority Life came out!
However, I do know of an NPC GLO that is at a larger NY school that hazed the crap out of my cousin's wife's sister (I know confusing!). They were a local that had recently joined a national, and didn't want to 'conform' to the national's rules. They were telling me about all the stuff she had to do, and they couldn't believe how surprised I was! I suppose I fear for people who are in locals...not ALL of them. But, a lot of locals have warped senses of sisterhood. The same can be said of unruly NPC groups as well...

Well, I can tell you this.....my sorority is a local but we are a christian sorority. Hazing has never been a practice or ours and never will be. I was not hazed and I will not haze anyone esle. Of course I had to prove I wanted to be in the sororitu but I did have to disgrace myself while doing it. So, all locals are not bad.
