Well, it's not exactly the same as a subway, but here ya go...
In Japan this summer, while taking the train, I noticed tons of people with camera cell phones... It's a pretty non-confrontational culture, so instead of staring at others, lots of people were using their camera viewers on their cell phones to look around at others... I was slightly creeped out by it, especially since most of them were looking at us, since we were obviously tourists.
