I've been doing Atkins these past few weeks, and doing pretty well on it.
Some of the important points of Atkins are:
- You must drink your water.
- You must exercise.
- You must eat your allotted carbs. It's lowcarb, not no-carb.
- You must accept that you're going to be eating lowcarb for the rest of your life (the maintenance plan).
Atkins is a way of life, not a quick-fix diet. But that's really not so different from lowfat, or low-calorie, or WW, etc. No matter what plan you choose, if you start stuffing your face with the "wrong" things, you're going to gain the weight back.
If you only have a few pounds to lose, though, I would suggest instead just cutting out simple sugars and white flour, cutting down on your portion sizes, and getting out and exercising. For a lot of people, that does the trick.
