I didn't not to address this issue with her personally simply because I don't know how she would handle it.
Since every year our department takes on a philanthrophy every year, we decide to support a local women's crisis center. Hopefully be interacting with women who have been in similiar situations (plus having access to information) maybe this will give her the motivation to change.
