I can tell you inequivocably that something like this would never fly in Canada.

Oh, and when I was at UBC, I never attended a football, ever. (And I don't know anyone who did). Sports is not a big deal in Canada unless you go to one of the football schools like Queens, University of Western Ontario or McGill.
