HAPPY THANKGIVING EVERYONE!
My family had pretty typical fare... well... for being half italian. Dinner was usually at Grandmas and consisted of the following:
First course (skipped when Grandma didn't feel like it):
Antipasto (umm... bread sticks, cheese, olives, proshuto (sp?)... etc)
Second course:
Lasanga or Gnocchi or some other pasta or fish soup (mmmmmm.... fish soup!)
Meatballs, or beef cooked in tomato sauce
Bread
Third course:
POTATOES: (baked, mashed or both)
VEGGIES: (varies - pick about 4 of the following corn, brusselspouts, turnip, carrots, beans, bell peppers, mushrooms, peas, articoke (though that was rare), cold veggies)
TURKEY (with stuffing and gravy)
MEAT (because Turkey wasn't enough!): Pick at least TWO of the following - steak, roast beef, chicken, cornish hen, ham (ham was very common), veal, pork, rabbit, duck
Fourth course:
SALAD! - greens, oil, vinger, and salt. It's good when Grandma doesn't over do it with the salt...
Also making appearence certain years: Cheese, Fruit, Veggie Platters
Fifth course: DESSERT!!!
CHEESE CAKE - not like the ones you buy. Very fluffy! Served with canned cherries on top.
Also making appearances certain years (most of in addition to the cheesecake, though sometimes instead of)
CHOCOLATE!
NUGET! (sp?)
PIE
CAKE (other cake)
ICE CREAM
Afterwards: Coffee... and dishes... lots of dishes...
Aww ... man... I'm so depressed right now, because I'm not at my Grandma's for this Thanksgiving... i'm at my boyfriends parents house. Writing all this out is making me hungry!
