I had a pretty realistic view of the world as a kid, and you just couldn't sell me on the sugary sweetness and light for historical Af-Am characters- even fictional ones. I knew that chances were high that her life was full of misery and pain so I wasn't buying that fairy tale.

The Muslim doll is great- I especially like that they are coming out with versions that have careers. Positive role models are so key.
