Maybe I should try it your way. All the guys I've ever dated somewhat seriously have been independents, which there's nothing really wrong with that, but they get all weird about the "sorority business." They didn't understand why DZ was/is so important to me, and they sort of rolled their eyes when I mentioned it. The ones who were most understanding about it tried, but they still had this preconceived notion about sororities being flaky and shallow. I got the "YOU are in a SORORITY?" thing a lot. Either that, or they just didn't care...if I had a sorority event, it was just like, "Yeah, well, if you've gotta do that stupid stuff, then go do it and call me later." It was just frustrating knowing that they didn't, and never would, understand.
