Yup. I don't know the story of ADPi's founding, but I do know that the roommate and a couple friends founded the Adelphian Society.
The ADPi roomed with Mary Ann Dupont Lines, who wanted to be in the Adelphian Society. For whatever reason, the Adelphian Society said "no."
Mary Ann Dupont Lines went on to form the Philomathian Society with two of her friends.
* additionally -- the Adelphian and Philomathian Societies were vastly different, even in their day. I forget what the Adelphian society focused on, but the Philomathian Society was a literary group, which had a newsletter from the earliest days, put on skits for professors, and hosted "salons" (discussion groups.) So, it may have been that the two roommates simply had very different ideals as to what they wanted in a group. The Philomathian Society was actually founded four months before Phi Mu celebrates Founder's Day -- March 4 is when the society's existance was announced.
